21 October 15 Northfield scoops award!

Phase 1 of Northfield Village has won the Joint-Venture Development of the year at Inside Housing’s Top 60 awards; a ceremony held to celebrate and commemorate the hard work carried out in the sector to provide the best in affordable housing and facilities.

Northfield Village is a unique development which brings together a range of accommodation, community and care facilities on one site. The project is a partnership between The Wrekin Housing Trust, Choices, Staffordshire County Council, Stafford Borough Council, the Homes and Communities Agency, NHS, Stafford Health and Wellbeing and Galliford Try, who are the main construction contractor. Phase 1 compromises of a dementia care centre, GP surgery and pharmacy, supported housing, affordable general needs housing and a biomass energy centre to provide the site with heating and hot water.

Inside Housing’s Top 60 Developments awards, supported by H+H, saw landlords, architects and developers come together to look at the country’s best developments and whittle it down to the top 60 schemes. The expert panel of judges then deliberated on the best of the best in key areas from affordable housing to private rented and market sale, from design to innovation, choosing Northfield as the winner of its category.

Emma Maier, editor of Inside Housing said “Many congratulations to all those who made it into the list - competition was very tight. Our Top 60 Developments show creativity and quality, and provide a model for the future”.

Jean Teichmann, Head of Development at The Wrekin Housing Trust, said: "We're really proud of our unique development as it brings together specialised care facilities, supported housing and affordable rent all on one site. We’re working hard to provide homes for every need; Northfield Village really does have it all. Now that Phase 2 is almost complete, the development has a fantastic community feel with the residents regularly using the bar, restaurant and café facilities along with the general public. I’m thrilled the judges singled out the design of the scheme, as it’s something we put a lot of effort into.”

County Councillor Mark Sutton, Cabinet Support Member for Social and Health Care said: “It is a county council priority to ensure that people can live full and independent lives for as long as possible. Northfield Village is a fine example of how a range of organisations have worked together to benefit the community and I am pleased to see it achieve national acclaim. By working closely with our partners, we are ensuring people will get access to a whole range of services in a welcoming and stimulating environment.”
