Limewood, a joint project between The Wrekin Housing Trust, Choices, and Staffordshire County Council is set to open later this year, and will provide accommodation, care and support for 59 people at every age and every stage of dementia.
This unique facility will take a natural, holistic approach to care; enabling each resident to be cared for as their needs develop and change, without having to continually move away from a familiar environment.
Here's Nigel Downs, Managing Director of Choices, sharing his thoughts: During the design stage, the project team worked with Stirling University, a leading authority on the care of people with dementia, to develop the dementia unit and its innovative Memory Hub. This hub will contain a street of 1950s themed facilities, including a pub, and cinema. Also on site will be meeting rooms and communal facilities on site, available for local support groups to meet, and provide help and advice for relatives and carers.
Speaking about the dementia care centre, Nigel Downs said: “We’re delighted to be involved in such an exciting development for the local community of Stafford. With poor care often in the news, we are proud to be leading the care sector by providing excellent new services. Limewood will provide expert care for every age and every stage of dementia, as well as much-needed community resources. Choices are looking forward to the opening later this year.”
